Introduction to Pubradio
Here is some basic information regarding PUBRADIO and how it works:
PUBRADIO is a free service provided by BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY
and the BSU RADIO NETWORK on behalf of all
public radio personnel throughout the country.
PREFACE- if you have received a strange document that includes
special commands, read this first-- it will help you. The
document that you were sent is an automatic form letter generated
when you were added to the new Pubradio Discussion Group.
PUBRADIO was established in 1991 as a CREN (BITNET) interest group.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with interest
groups, here's a brief explanation. The interest group can be
accessed by sending mail to:
pubradio@listserv.boisestate.edu.
Any mail sent to this address will be distributed to all members.
Therefore, if you send something to this address, all
PUBRADIO participants will receive it. Additionally, as a member,
you will receive all mail sent to the address
PUBRADIO@listserv.boisestate.edu. As you might guess, this could
snow-ball into an excessive amountn of mail, especially for overworked
public radio employees.
In order to prevent this, we have taken several precautions. First,
this group is private. Most interest groups can be joined by
any interested party. This group will only be for Public Radio
Employees and therefore will not include listeners who have
complaints, etc. Secondly, we are restricting members of PUBRADIO
to ONE POSTING a day. Violators are subject to
being removed from this discussion group.
PUBRADIO should never be used to promote a specific program or service. The DACS exists for that purpose. Therefore, the "pitching" of radio programs and/or services is strictly prohibited. Violators are subject to delisting.
If you feel that an issue needs dialogue, by all means, use
the discussion group. Any who wish to reply may do so using a
subject that identifies it as a "dialogue." Those who
do not wish to participate can recognize the subject as a "dialogue"
and
immediately discard it. Hopefully, these precautions will allow
for lively use -- but will not burden public radio personnel.
You have been authorized for the PUBRADIO interest group. if you do not wish to participate, you may go to our website [www.pubradio.org] and use the form to request that your name be removed.
You may also signoff yourself by sending a
SIGNOFF PUBRADIO command to this address: listserv@listserv.boisestate.edu
[just remember that once you sign off, you cannot sign yourself back on. Therefore, if you wish to simply stop PUBRADIO for a temporary period of time, use the SET PUBRADIO NOMAIL command] [see the NOMAIL FAQ]
You may look up the e-mail address of any active PUBRADIO participant
by going to this website:
This service is maintained at no charge to us by our good colleagues at WDUQ in Pittsburgh.
Finally, one important word of warning . . . use the REPLY key
on your computer system ONLY if you want your reply
CIRCULATED TO THE ENTIRE PUBRADIO MEMBERSHIP (OVER 900 OF US).
If you would like your response to be more private, reply to the
senders' e-mail address listing, available from your PUBRADIO
Directory, which is maintained by WDUQ FM Pittsburgh as a service
to the system.
